30 kW to 800 kW · Silent canopy
Silent Canopy Diesel Generators (30 kW to 800 kW)
A silent set is the same engine and alternator inside a steel acoustic enclosure. The canopy does three jobs at once: it drops the noise to a level a neighbourhood or a hospital ward will tolerate, it keeps the rain and the dust out, and it turns the whole machine into one lockable transportable unit with the fuel tank built into the base.
The honest limit of a canopy is cooling. Every dB you take out of the noise means less air moving through the box, so the enclosure has to be designed with the radiator, the airflow and the site ambient in mind rather than picked from a list of sizes. We size the canopy to the set, and we test the finished unit on the load bank in the enclosure rather than on an open frame.

What this form includes
- ›Double-wall acoustic panels with mineral or acoustic foam infill, rated for the set it contains.
- ›Lockable service doors on both sides, so filters, belts and the control panel stay reachable without dismantling the canopy.
- ›Base-mounted fuel tank as standard, sized for a normal working day, with a filling point and a level gauge.
- ›Weatherproof finish: rain hoods on the air outlets, sealed cable entry, and a powder-coated steel shell.
- ›Optional 1000 L extended base tank for unattended sites.

These are the sizes we quote most often as silent canopy sets, 30 kW to 800 kW prime. Outside that band we build to the same specification on request - send the load and the site conditions and an engineer will size it. Each card opens the full datasheet with the fuel curve and dimensions.

Power ratings follow ISO 8528-1:2018 (Prime PRP / Standby ESP), and the fuel figures are stated at ISO 3046-1:2002 standard reference conditions. Both are confirmed unit by unit on our load bank, and the test record ships with the set. Standby figures are the engine's factory standby rating from the model spectrum table — never a computed 110% of the rated output. Noise figures are typical open-type reference values, not a guaranteed sound-power level.
Where this form fits best
- ›Hospitals, hotels, offices and apartment blocks where the set sits near people.
- ›Residential neighbourhoods and city centres with a noise limit at the boundary.
- ›Construction and rental use where the set has to move between sites and stay weatherproof.
- ›Harsh outdoor sites that still need a serviceable, lockable unit: coastal, dusty or rainy.
What you give up
Every form trades something. These are the drawbacks of the silent canopy option as we build it - worth reading before the quotation, not after.
- ›Weight and size: the shell adds several hundred kilograms and takes up more floor area than an open set.
- ›Cost: the canopy is a real line item, typically a noticeable share of the set price rather than a cheap accessory.
- ›Cooling margin: a canopy needs more attention to airflow, so the site ambient temperature matters more than it does for an open set.
- ›Access: routine service is fine through the doors, but a major overhaul is easier with an open set or a containerised set.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quiet is a silent diesel generator set?▼
In our catalogue the canopy reference is about 68 dB(A) at 7 m on sets up to 100 kW, roughly 72 dB(A) on the 100-400 kW band and about 75 dB(A) at 7 m on the largest canopy sets. Those are normal canopy reference values, not a guaranteed sound-power level. If your site has a numeric noise limit, send it with the distance and the nearest sensitive building and we will confirm the design.
Does a canopy reduce the power of the set?▼
Not if it is sized properly, but an undersized canopy can force a derating because the engine cannot get enough cooling air. That is why we design the canopy around the radiator, the airflow figure and the site ambient, and why the finished unit is load-bank tested inside the enclosure rather than on an open frame.
Is the fuel tank inside the canopy?▼
In the base of it, under the set, normally sized for a working day. For unattended sites we build a larger base tank - commonly 1000 litres - with a level gauge and a lockable filler, so a tower or a standby set can run for days between deliveries.
